Thanks for the poetry - did you recite that off the top of your head? How impressive! :)
The Aunt
Great to catch up with your news again and all the best for your last days in US.
Up Hill
Does the road wind up-hill all the way? Yes, to the very end. Will the day's journey take the whole long day? From morn to night, my friend.
Christina Rossetti was a great favourite poet of your paternal grandmother!!
It is good to catch up with the 'urban apartment dweller'
Alice
Ooh... pre-Raphaelite huh? Or should I say excluded pre-Raphaelite seeing as she was a girl and therefore excluded by definition from the "Brotherhood."
Do you SERIOUSLY take the lift down to the 4th floor? What country do you live in again?
If it wasn't for you using words like "lift," "bookshop" and "rubbish" I might think you lived in the States.
(Then again, they're actually a lot more active than the stereotypes suggest, so I take that back!)
Urban Apartment Dweller
Those of us who take the lift down to the 4th floor to swim in the lap pool, put a bag of rubbish in a chute just along the corridor, and walk next door to the supermarket/dry cleaners/ bookshop/pharmacy etc find your reminiscences quite quaint...washing in waterfall indeed! And anyway what parent would make their child walk for miles along a dusty uphill track ( do seem to remember having to be rather encouraging on one occasion in Pentecost to get others to continue..). anyway, all sounds like Christina Rosetti " Does the Road Wind Uphill all the Way" . Now there's a poem to learn...
Waterfall Washer
yeah i think so. this one was different - maybe it will help to jolt the memories if I say that the trail went UPHILL....
Alice
Oh that one... On Pentecost?
I think that was a different time to the one I was thinking of. Did we wash in that waterfall too?
This one was near a bridge so that people would drive along the road and across the bridge and watch us strange people washing in the stream. Do you remember that one?
Experienced Hiker
Yes I remember that time in Vanuatu. Although I remember it slightly differently, my account goes like this...
We went ashore, hiked for about five hours (exageration is good or the story) on rocky paths in flip flops of course. Then we found the ´waterfall' and by the time we hiked back in the immense heat we were all gross again... good times tho.
Alice
Yeah, I did kinda bathe in the stream, also ALA Banfield styles. The Chinese girl with us was like, "Wow, that's the first time I have done that before" and I was like, how many times have we... I remember going ashore in Vanuatu and finding some stream to shampoo and soap up in. Probably lots of other times too!
City Slicker
..mmm, glad th e blog doesn't have 'scracth and sniff' after 3 days without showers! What was wrong with washing in the stream cf swimming in Lake Taupo in winter... and as for hardship, well I am confident those that have slept in an aging Range Rover by Lake Taupo on a winter's night can rough it well - bet you wer a star!
xx
ps rather glad to hear about lack of lions and bears, growls sounds quite enough to me!
Alice
Yeah, you're right, Sarah really is a genius!
Who Said It Wasyour Sister?
Clearly if that person was your sister they woul have used that sisters name. Obviously your sister would have known as i hear she is basically a genius... there is no need to feel jealous of her cos shes so cool. I am just one of her many) humble fans...
p.s I hear that she has been getting soaked by freezing rain in cologne cos she was so exhausted to run up 3 flights of stair to get a sweater...
A Little Ashamed Too
Oops, I see they are no longer called Black Magic (after trying to prove how much more Kiwi I was, I failed!). They are now Emirates Team NZ?!
