Day Eight Tuesday 11th July 2023
With a lot of the preparation completed yesterday evening we were up early and had the car loaded by 09.15. This meant that we were ready to leave earlier than we had thought but all was good, and so after a quick check of the food cupboards and fridge we left at 09.30 for our journey home. The weather forecast had changed, and we left in the sun rather than the rain we thought we would have. All went well until we hit road works that had our road home closed for the day, and so we were on a detour. Actually, just for once this was well signed and it made no difference to our overall distance travelled. In fact, it was the same as our journey out, 211 miles.
We stopped again at the Cambridge services for a snack, this time availing ourselves of the noodle bar. The yummy sweet and sour chicken with noodles and egg fried rice went down a treat.
By the time we started hitting the motorway after our break the rain came and seemed to slow the journey down. The rain stayed with us on and off all the way home and finished by pouring as we parked the car to empty it. Thankfully the garage saved us from getting wet. In fact, the travel time was almost the same as the journey out, being just over 5 hours.
We had a great time enjoying being back by the sea and relaxing in good weather as well as seeing plenty of old steam engines of all kinds, which are one of our favourite things. As ever though, it was good to be back and we relaxed with a cuppa and watched the Tour de France, just waking in time to catch the finish!
The total travel distance was 211 miles.
