re: Mt VesuviusMonira Thanks for your input girls bchai: OMG, Malaysia just confirmed that they have 2 peolpe with H1N1! Both were students flying in from their universities in the US. A lot of students in SG and MY study overseas and since school's out for the summer, a lot of them are flying home. Nyarg! And their first two cases of H1N1 patients prove that thermal scanners at the airport aren't really effective in detecting flu/fever, since they both didn't develop the symptoms until a day after their flight.magnetic-rose: Thanks for the book suggestion! My only gripe about those kind of books is that they're more geared toward Western travelers dementedchris: Better safe than sorry no! Kebs na if peolpe look at you funny. I'll be writing about travel insurance in future posts

re: Mike and Mt VesuviusEsraa my first choice over the years has been to fly with Globespan..i boeokd a holiday last week with tour operators, On The Beech Holidays, who clearly state the do not sell package holidays.but i did buy the flight, hotel and transfers from them at a good price.and it was a no frills flight and thought i would have had the pleasure of flying with Globespan again, but to my dissapointment at the time, it turned out i would be flying with Ryanair .CLOSE ONE..as i paid by debit card i fly on the 10th of january 2010 and im going to purchase travel insurance from A.A. travel ,as they clearly state their policy covers for companies who go into administration..so think im ok now, just in case Ryanair sink as well i also had the option of paying the holiday again by credit card ,paying the diffirence and getting my debit card payment refunded i hope all the Globespan travellers and cabin crew get home safely..and every one who has still to go their holiday, get refunded and find another holiday Stevie
re: photo from 22 May 2008Grass Murray, Global TravellerThe problem seems to be hnaivg dug as hard as I can, the UK introduced it's passports to early. This has lead to some confusion, Keep in mind UK required our Passports MRP 8 years before anyone else and biometric 2 years before anyone else. The USA failed to meet it own deadlines for these hence it kept moving the goal posts. But checking into it further became more confusing as all types of Passports issued and still valid by UKPA or IPS are MRP and therefore valid for entry into the USA or anywhere else.Darren, best advice would be.However if your Passport was issued overseas, then you do need to check it is the correct type. As Consulates are not always issuing the same style passports as the IPS.
re: canalRimamnyang I am from London and have lived in South Africa for the last four years and happily call Cape Town home now. Indeed the level of crime in South Africa is high but by far the mtaorijy of visits to South Africa are completely trouble free. Have I been the victim of crime here Yes, why? Because I didnt listen to local advice, thought it would be fine to walk somewhere at the wrong time through the wrong places. Have I been a victim of crime in London yes on a good few occasions. I manage a tour operator based in South Africa and 99% of the 4000+ visitors we bring into South Africa each year have completely trouble free holidays. My family regularly visit me here and in the 15+ times various people have visited no one has had any problems. The one reason for this they are listening to local advice. Come to South Africa, you will have an amazing time. The hospitality of the South Africans is second to none, just remember one thing ASK ADVICE! If you are staying in a hotel or guest house they will gladly give you the information you need or call you a licenced taxi to get you safely from A to B but do remember, if you're coming for World Cup, its slap bang in the middle of our winter so be prepared to get wet.
re: Dachau concentration campEmany Hi Guys, thanks for the beta invtie and password.Just a thought, would be nice if I could link into my Trip Advisor account and save stuff from there to my clippings in TripTrace.Seems like a good idea to have the book graphic metaphore, but not so sure when using it. Is it possible to go to full screen, eg when looking at the atlas?Kenn
re: AsoloBrodien Thanks Kenn,We will continue to add API-connected svecires and accounts to increase ease, but you should be able to clip just about anything you can look at online. Did you try clipping something from TripAdvisor? I hear you re: book metaphor. We'll continue seeing how the site gets used and if it is really posing a problem, we'll adjust as required. You may be right that a full-screen view of the Atlas would be particularly helpful. I'll keep users posted about these kinds of things as they evolve.Cheers.
re: photo from 11 August 2008Masato I recently staertd an online publication, SDA Network News, that is aimed at a predominantly African-American audience, but I would love to establish a link to your blog for our travel section. Better still, you would be great as our European or Paris correspondent.Like you, I am retired I'm 71 years old and love traveling, especially in Europe.
re: photo from 11 August 2008Anuradha I think it's really uafinr how so many people the world over seem incapable of understanding the want to have children, to leave a legacy, and have something special between you and your partner does not end at heterosexuality. Furthermore, any concerns about parenting children in same-sex households should be allayed by the countless peer-reviewed books, studies and articles that exist out there and have existed for some time now. Still, the law and many people do not recognize these things, and I am very sorry that that is the case. It makes life more difficult for people like you and Ash, and there's no good reason for it. If the government(s) could just butt out of our intimate, personal lives 99% of the time, the world would be a much better place. I hope things work out for your and Ash's baby wishes in the future. Also, I approve of The Modern Baby Company! Very cute stuff!
re: Martiniscuro, Italyabboedaii Chanize thank you for your contribution. Yes, when semoone visits off their own back and writes about a negative experience on their blog/TripAdvisor/a forum, we (either the PR or customer services depending on the client) contact them to resolve the situation. When a PR organises a trip (let's forget the client's financial investment for a second) they are the key contact for that blogger/journalist. In the same way that a holiday maker would contact their travel agent to straighten out a negative experience on their holiday and try to resolve them before immediately broadcasting how awful it is, it's only natural that as the trip organisers we would expect the same courtesy. We don't expect any writer to create a positive piece (although we hope they will!), we expect them to create a balanced piece.
