Tuesday 6th November 2007- Thames, Coromandel Peninsula, Hahei.
Left Auckland again and got on the Stray Bus with Lynn bumped into Sophie from Bay of Islands and met Julia. Met our drive Karlyn who was a nutter! eW all trundled up to Mt Eden to look over Auckland and take some photos the weather was miserable but got some ok shots. Saw the crater of an extinct volcano its great to know that Auckland is actually built on a volcano which isn't classified as completely extinct. Then went on our trip towards Hahei. We hugged another Kaori tree and had some group photos. Saw natural woodland on the way and called at a view point. We saw the bay where Captain Cook arrived and walked up a hill to take photos got chatting to the group on the way who were really nice. We all had to introduce ourselfs and sit next to someone we didn't know. Although this is slightly embarassing it is a good way of people getting know people especially if they are on their own. We then experienced Karlyn's driving and commentary which was erm .... exciting. We called through Thames went to the supermarket then we called at Purangi Winery. Where we got to taste wine, port and whiskey. This warmed me up!
We arrived at Hahei Holiday Park and we dumped out stuff and set off on the walk to Cathedral Cove. It was a nice walk but a but muddy which isn't the best in white nike trainers. Enjoyed myself though and got chatting to different people in the group. Diana, Sally, Neil, Julia, Sophie, Peter (who went to school with Prince Harry like you do). We arrived back and the BBQ was done. Karlyn and Mark the Irish guy had cooked enough for about 16 of us. It was lovely and nice to get chatting to the rest of the group Roseanne, Sinead, Gemma and Anna. Most people watched Happy Gilmore after tea but it reminded me of Gareth and I felt homesick so went to read. That night there was an option to go to the hot water beach. Where you dig a hole and hot water comes up from the sand. However Karlyn was driving us at 11:00pm so I decided to have a shower and go to bed. The group split and it was nice to chat to Sally and Sophie in our room.
