Well well well what can I say - here I am in the hostel in Milano - not impressed at all with the accommodation and I must say that Milano is not what I expected on first impressions - just like any big city with older buildings then I expected... So here we are on the internet trying to sort out the next couple of days so I can go to Como for longer and Maria can head to Calabria for a few more days... Suffice to say it is all working out for us...
Yesterday we were in Verona for a Guilietta and Romeo Day - we trekked there from Venice to Verona in the morning and checked into the hotel right into the city centre, near the old roman walls and right near the Arena which would prove very handy for the following activities. After checking in we headed into the main centre of town, picked up the opera tickets and went to Casa di Giulietta (Juliets House and balcony) and acted like REAL TOURISTS!!! Pining for Romeo on the balcony (Romeo, Romeo where for art thou Romeo?) and rubbing Juliets Boob which i must say, I needed to disenfect my hands afterwards. There were aussie guys groping, kissing and licking her breast which made everyone laugh and we now know how menningococcal is spread!!! Anyway, afterwards we bought some souvi's and headed to the Duomo for a quick look inside and a break from the stifling heat with NO BREEZE!!!! We then decided to take the tourist route along the river to see Verona from the south side - Pictures cannot do it justice because it felt like we were in Switzerland with the buildings, mountains and lovely trees - if you squint you can imagine...
We walked to the Roman Theatre, couldnt give a damn about the Museum - except for Maria taking tile photos for her dad, we just wanted to check ou the view .. and was the trek worth it? Hell yeh!
Then came the trek to Juliets tomb which I consumed vast amounts of water in doing so.. and we saw a Backstreet Boys sign for the concert in Padua - is it a sign??? I think so!!!
The tomb was very believable and eerie, many guidebooks write of the Romeo and Juliet story as make believe, but when you think about in the Middle Ages with the money and family, I wouldnt be surprised if it happened... So we headed back to the hotel for a rest!!! (well deserved) and got ready for the opera! Nice view, good singing but not one bloody idea about the storyline!! It went from 9:15 - 1:30 in the morning and about 10 intermissions, and the whole time Maria and I are trying to figure out the story line, just when we had it sorted, something happened that didnt make sense... Bed was next, after a 2am gelato - delicious!
This morning we went and had a coffee and pastry at a world famous cafe near Juliets House and that brings us to now when we are here in Milano, trying to sort out the next day... This evening we are going to see the Duomo and the sights around by sunset and then having some apertivi and drinks for our last night in Italy together - the trip is cut short again but oh well - we will both be doing something that we want to do...
Lets make tonight count!!!

Will chat to everyone in Como!!!

Aracely MMm, peaches! I love them in seotohims too. And the dehydrator is pretty much a necessity here. There is no better way to store peppers for future use in sauces and soups than drying them. Our carrots also dry nicely, we slice them fairly thin and they reconsitute in soups and stews wonderfully. They take up so much less space without the water in them. and the lack of water seems to stop the aging process, so they stay sweet.
Miguel Ellie, I never have dried carrots since we never seem to grow eonugh of them to dry. Dave puts them in the veggie soup mix we freeze, and we eat them raw but never have an abundance to freeze. I've seen those packages of dried veggies at Whole Foods and thought it would be neat to put together something like that for snacks in the winter. Or use in soup. Thanks for the info on carrots.
