Christian's Little Jaunt
Rubbish, that's what we are. But more of that in a minute.
Firstly, it would be rude not to introduce you to the third member of our roadtrip, the lovely Lily. She's the love of Abi's life and the apple of my eye. We left Sydney on Thursday, proud parents of a bright yellow Toyota Hi-Ace campervan. I mentioned the numerous features in my last update, so won't harp on about them..... but it's got a fridge! A van that has a fridge. And 2 gas hobs. And a wardrobe. Did I mention the fridge?
Anyhow, with Lily fully stocked with supplies (some of which were conveniently placed in the fridge) we hugged the Pacific Highway up to Newcastle, then up through Port Macquarie and now in Coffs Harbour. It's about 27 degrees, the sun's relentless and the beaches are superb. Especially Seal Rocks beach - deserted and untouched, with white sand.
On the way, stopped off for some reptilian action at the Australian Reptile Centre, home to one of the worlds most hilariously cantankerous animals, Eric. He's a 60-year old half-ton alligator, who's officially been termed a "problem animal" due to his penchant for biting anything that moves. After attacking numerous residents in a remote area of the North, he was caught and transferred to a reptile zoo where he promptly ate 2 female crocs cos they wouldn't put out. He then had his right back foot chewed off by a third which he was getting frisky with. So they've had to put him in his own pond, behind bars - what a boy eh? Pix on here soon.
Back to being rubbish. At surfing. We're in the home of wave riding, so we got all confident after Raglan NZ and gave it another whirl today. Lasted 21 minutes in the water. And swallowed 21 gallons of it. After getting the salt pumped from our bodies at the local A&E tonight, we're gonna crack on again tomorrow morning. Damn water, why can't it be frozen, much easier.
