Just for Laughs!
Well, I am indeed still at home for another month... before I embark upon my Great American Adventure! But just to give you a quick run down...
I am going to Arizona for a 10 week conservation experience, learning about the geography of the area, how to protect and manage these landscapes and to work with people from all across the world. This is going to be a physically demanding challenge and I am really looking forward to (fingers crossed) improving my fitness!
After the hard but fun time in Arizona I shall take the train (chugga chugga woo woo) all the way to Los Angeles, CA. This is to explore and sightsee somewhere that almost everyone has heard of. There is just so much to see and do so I am going to have to pick and choose as I am here for just over a week. I am going to be living it up in Hollywood and strolling luxuriously around Beverley Hills. Let's face it, probably the only time in my life when I can say, yeah, I am so so close to celebrity status right now! I might take a trip to San Francisco... and Santa Monica as well.... if it's possible, I might try for San Diego. But like I said, time is limited so I will just go ith the flow........... :-)
I am also very fortunate to be on the Rocky Mountain High trek with Trek America this May! We will be trekking through some awe inspiring national parks such as the Grand Canyon, Zion, Glacier and Yellowstone to name a few. I will be camping with fellow trekkers as we hit the open road and go on the road trip of a lifetime!
To end my trip in the US of A, I am spending time with an American family, who are taking me around the Pacific Northwest! I am hoping to visit the Olympic National Park via Forks (any Twilight fans should be jealous about now), but also trek down to Crater Lake National Park in Oregon for some independant research. On the weekends I am thinking it will be awesome to go to Mt St Helens as this volcano is always full of surprises. (Check out the lateral eruption that occured on May 18th 1980!) I will also get to enjoy the American way of life by visiting the local town, riding in a cop car as a passenger amongst other exciting escapades!)
I am very interested in national parks as they are protected to maintain places saved by the American people because of their natural beauty and characteristics. This enables people like me to visit and experience American heritage and understand more about the geographical aspects ranging from geothermal activity at Yellowstone, the geology of the Grand Canyon to the glacier carved terrain of Glacier National Park. There is just so much diversity within the American landscape, which is one of the primary reasons why I wanted to spend my gap year absorbed in it!
