Sorry its been so long since I have updated my blog. I have had the busiest but best Xmas and New Year. I really liked Sydney but 12 days was long enough. It started to get pretty claustraphobic after a while. Right where to start.... The 22nd of December I went for a walk through the botanical gardens and down to the Opera house to get some iconic photos. The gardens were beautiful and the Opera House was stunning. In the afternoon, the girls and I went to Luna Park on the other side of the harbour bridge. I wasn't very impressed to be honest but Katie's friend Matt and Fi went on a couple of rides and said it was good. $10 a ride was way too expensive for me.
On the 23rd of Dec - Mel, Katie and I went to Bondi Beach and did the 2 hour Bondi to Coogee walk which was beautiful. We all go burnt but it was worth it. The beaches were beautiful. I wasn't very impressed with Bondi at all but Coogee was a lovely beach. In the afternoon we all went down to the opera house for the filming of GMTV. I got on tv, yes!, but I think everyone at home missed it hehe. Im going to have a look on the website and see if I can watch it back.
Xmas Eve - Everyone that had met up along the east coast (about 30 of us) got together for a Chriatmas Eve harbour cruise. There was about 150 on the boat, which included free booze and free food - dangerous. 3 hours later, we had all lost our xmas hats, due to the wind, and were really quite drunk. Fantastic night though.
Xmas Day - what a horrible day. It was cloudy and rainy, nice! The girls and I stuck to our original plan though and went to Bondi Beach to cook a bbq. We managed it, just, but after we had eaten, headed back to Steph and Amys room at the travelodge in town and all watched the Grinch. In the evening all 6 of us got dressed up and headed out for an Indian. It was probably the best Indian I have ever had and it was a fab end to a rather miserable Xmas Day in Sydney.
Boxing Day - Races time. Mel, Fi, Katie, Mel and I headed to Randwick for the traditional Boxing Day races. I won one race and lost the rest but the drink was pretty cheap and we all got to dress up so it was a lovely day. The venue was fantastic too.. nothing like Epsom... although as usual it was full of the Irish hehe. As you all know the evening didnt go very well as on a night out in Kings Cross with Mel, Amy and Steph my purse got stolen. That was horrible but all sorted now so trying to forget about it and consider the day a good one.
27th to 30th Dec. The girls and I spent the next few days having cooked breakfasts, going to the rocks for a sunday session where we listened to jazz music in the park, drank wine, we went for a day trip to Manly where we sunbathed and ate ice cream - Manly was beautiful and I would love to go back, we also went to Palm Beach where Home and Away is filmed. I got some good photos of the surf club and the beach. I was so excited about going there so Im really glad I can say I have been to Summer Bay.
New Years Eve - What a day! Fi, Katie, Mel, Emma and I queued in the botanical gardens from 8.30am to 12pm in order to get a great spot for the evenings fireworks. Luckily we made it and got a fantastic spot with a great view. We took a picnic and also managed to sneak in 2 bags of goon (wine in a bag) too which was brill because the alcohol on site was sooo expensive (as you can imagine). After a sleep and a few games of poker, the family fireworks began at about 9pm. Wow is all I can say. What a great start to the evening. Fireworks went off of city buildings, the bridge and lots of boats on the river. When it was time for the 12pm countdown everyone was together with a glass of goon waiting for the fireworks to start. They were absolutely amazing. Aparantly they were the best yet and I have to say they had to be seen to be believed. The opera house, the bridge and about 50 boats were lit up like Disneyland. It was amazing and I had a fantastic New Years.
New Years Day - I met up with Mel and her friend from home, Lou, in Darling Harbour for lunch and then we went to the cinema to see 'Did you hear about the Morgans'. Very funny film and just what I needed after a busy and very 'merry' evening. Was really nice to see Mel too as I couldn't get to her at 12pm because it was so busy. She had a good spot too though which was good so we both got some great photos.
2nd Jan - All 8 girls decided to book into the travelodge for our last night in Sydney. We were really sneaky and only booked 2 rooms so it was cheaper. Needless to say we got away with it, although a couple of us did end up sleeping on the floor hehe. We all went out to Side Bar in town for a few jagerbombs, had a dance and said our goodbyes. Was really sad to say goodbye but I will see most of them again in the UK I am sure and hoping to catch up with Steph in New Zealand too. I got on so well with her, she was awesome. We have already planned to meet up in Brighton in March where we are meeting Claire too (who I met in Carins). Really looking forward to that!
3rd Jan - Melbourne here I come. I went to the wrong airport which wasn't a great start but it was Jet Stars fault so I blame them entirely hehe. Arrived at my hostel about 5.30pm and was really impressed. I felt like a flashpacker, I even had a duvet can you believe it hehe.
4th Jan - Went for an 8 mile, yes 8 mile walk around the city and down to the MCG. Wow that was impressive. Great sporting venue. I also walked through the Olympic Park where the Oz Open is due to be held here next week. The courts look fantastic and the arenas look great too so it should be a good tournament. Melbourne is the home of Oz sport after all but I was still impressed with their preparations. I also bought some souvenirs on the way back to my hostel for some of you back home... no im not telling you what they are. They are just token presents but I like them. When I got back to the hostel I got chatting to a girl in my room called, Floor (yes like the floor hehe), from Holland and she was lovely. I think we chatted fro a about 2 hours. It was really nice to speak to someone new and hear about their travelling story.
5th Jan - Floor and I headed to Melbourne's iconic beach in St Kilda. We had a wander around the streets and sunbathed in the afternoon. The beach wasn't the nicest I have seen but it was a nice day. In the evening, Floor and I headed to the botanical gardens for the Moonlight cinema screening of 'Couples Retreat'. What a great venue for a cinema. Hundreds of people surrounded us with rugs, picnics, alcohol and it felt like a big sleep over in the park. The film was really good and very funny. When we left Floor and I decided to take a shortcut and ended up climbing over the garden gates which was amusing to say the least hehe.
6th Jan - In the morning I met up with Mel and we went to the tax office to hand in our forms to get our tax back. $675 the government owes me so I am looking forward to having a bit of extra cash to come back to when I get back to the UK. In the afternoon we got on the tram and headed to the set of Neighbours. Melbourne suburbs are lovely. I would definately consider moving to Melboure if I decided to emigrate to Oz its by far the nicest city. Mel and I got some pictures in Ramsay Street - which is actually called Pin Oak Ct - bit of trivia for you. We saw Harolds house, The Skullys, The Kennedys and Toadie's bungalow. Unfortunately we didn't get to see any of the cast because they wern't filiming until the evening but atleast we can say we have stood on Ramsay Street. When I got back to the hostel I bumped into Dale, Neil, Ant and Shaun, 4 lads that I met in Sydney. They invited out with them in the evening which was nice. I met them in the bar about 8 and after a few drinks, a few games of pool, some terrible karaoke performances from Neil and Dale, we headed to the Casino - in fancy dress (which Dale and Neil won by singing in the karaoke competition). I went as a cat and the boys went as bus boys hehe. I couldn't believe it when they actually let us in the casino dressed like that hehe but wow what a Casino. It was huge and full of clubs, cinemas, restaurants and gambling machines/tables. We even got lost on the way out hehe. Can't wait to see how Las Vegas compares .
7th Jan - Today, Mel and I went on a Great Ocean Day Tour. I am so glad I decided to do the tour because the view was one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. We stopped in various spots along the road during the day and ended up watching the sunset go down over the 12 Apostles (12 rock formations that sit slightly off the coast). No wonder people say it is a must do when you come to Australia - it really is a sight not to miss.
8th Feb - Today I am updating my blog and then heading to the botanical gardens for a sunbathe. I am meeting Mel and Lou later for a few drinks down by the river which should be nice. Might try and catch up with the boys as well because they leave tomorrow. 2 more nights left in Melbourne then back to Sydney for my flight to Nz on Tuesday. I can't believe how qucikly time is going. Ive loved Oz but Im all a bit oz'd out now and can't wait to move on and see Nz.
