Good morrow fine people! I'm a bit behind with this blog but I'll get it up to date soon, promise!
Sydney has now been ticked off the list of places too, but I have to say it wasn't what I expected at all. I don't know if it was where we stayed or just becasue we didnt do enough, but it just wasn't that great. Well, apart from one bit that I'll tell you about later.
After another overnight bus journey, we arrived in sunny Sydney just before lunchtime, which was mint because I was starving. I have no idea why I have just told you this but it takes up space and makes me look like a Novelist, so just stick with it!
We had a bit of a wander about in the afternoon to check out the area we were staying in. The hostel itself was right next to a quality big park called Domain, which has all the city skyscrapers as a backdrop, lovely. Best of all, we had a roof terrace view of it all.
As night time rolled around, we headed up the road to a place called Kings Cross (almost a bigger s***hole than the London version unfortunately) which is where the night life was supposed to be. We were actually heading up there to meet Ash & Laura, mates of Norm & Rik's who were stopping and working there. Cosidering it's seedy backdrop just a block away (listen to me man, block!) thier pad was quite a nice little place, so we got some beer in and had a bit craic. It prevented us from performing open wallet surgery for a night at least!
Saturday we all decided to head down to Bondi for a bit beachy fun. Bondi junction is at least a mile from the actual beach and the busses were rammed, so we had to walk there. Fine with me, not so fine with them! It was worth the walk mind, lovely looking place and buzzing when we got there. Deciding to follow the Brits abroad route, we lay about doing nowt and eating fish and chips. Nice! Actually, sticking with the brits abroad thing, we decided to hit kings cross that night, and it's dark underbelly showed itself with the night ending early, thanks to a clothing dispute with some doormen and a couple of locals. Great eh!
Sunday we decided it was about time we did something useful and we headed down to the Harbour to see the bridge and the opera house. Stunning stuff and a much better place to be than Kings bloody Cross! James Brown tunes flowing out of the sound system, beer on tap, bridge in the background.. for a split second I felt like I'd made it! We dossed about down there for most of the day, watching people do the bridge climb and stuff.
On Monday it was time to leave, with the next destination supposed to be Byron Bay, but we couldnt get any beds, so we have to head for Surfers Paradise instead. What a shame.. :P
