A fairly straight forward border crossing from Singapore into Malaysia found us 6hours later in the capital city that is Kuala Lumpur. First impressions were not great, there are more buses than people.... and trust me there are millions of people!! If we had had one of those masks to cover your mouth we probably would have worn them, the pollution and smell is enough to stop even the most hungry person (Richard) from eating. Despite that we coughed our way to our lodge for the next 3nights, positioned just off the main road it provided a much needed haven and offered a stunning view of the city from the roof top garden. The Chinatown district was crazy, with stalls selling every fake item of clothing you could wish for and I am now sporting a new 'Nike' watch after the the last one died probably from the immense pollution. A slight highlight was the discovery of a Nandos restaurant... something we had both been secretly craving since leaving the UK and it was half the price! Over the next few days we planned our entry into Thailand as to avoid some of the more dangerous southern areas and starting looking for somewhere to stay over Christmas, we also visited the famous Twin Towers from the film Entrapment. The towers are one of the tallest in the world and are owned by an minted oil company called Petronas who try and brain-wash all visitors by making them watch their propogander film before entering the towers for free! "We LOVE Petronas they really look after the local community"! Another highlight (more for Petra!) was me having to finally get my hair cut, the language barrier was a problem and also the fact they tried but didnt succeed to charge me 3 times the price (that I pointed out what was written on the wall)! The end result amused many... even the hostel owned gave me a bigger smile than normal and Petra kindly pointed out that I looked like one of the local Indians. A rescue plan was swiftly put into place and out came the scissors, a worried look from me and a big smile on Petra's face. The next thing on my shopping list was a hat. With our plans in place we sadly left the coughing behind and jumped on a overnight bus across to the Thai border.
