Hi everyone, hope you're all well. We are having a great time. On our travels now and Kevin is running well. We are in Margaret River now on the south-west coast. We have seen some fantastic scenery along the coast. We have kept to the coast road pretty much all the way.
Before we began our travels we did some more exploring around the Perth area. On Thursday we visited King's Park in the city. It had spectacular views of the skyscrapers and of the river. We went on recommendation by Irene and were not disappointed. We went through the water garden and over the boardwalk seeing great views, animals and plants.
We went Whale watching on Friday too which was pretty good as we saw a mother and baby jump out of the water. It was a bit overcast which made them quite difficult to see but we still had a great time. Saturday was spent mostly setting up for our travels, and we went out with Irene for a meal in the evening.
Sunday went very well. Our first stop was Rockingham, where we caught a ferry to Penguin Island. We had a walk around the island before going to the Penguin Discovery Centre, to watch the little guys getting fed. They were really funny! Plenty of pics and vids to see from that too. Next stop was Mandurah, where we ended up at the marina. It's a beautiful place with markets, and restaurants. We walked out of the harbour and found a cinema, and decided to go there later to see 'Evan Almighty', after our BBQ dinner. We spent the first night in a beach car park just south of Mandurah. It was very picturesque.
The next day we headed further south and made a stop in Bunbury, not the most interesting place in the world but they had some interesting architecture, and we stocked up for the rest of the day while we were there. Our next stop was a lot more exciting - Busselton. It boasts the longest wooden pier in the southern hemisphere, measuring almost 2km long. We walked the length of it then went for a hot choccy before coming back to fish the sunset. Unfortunately the only thing we caught was the sea bed and had to cut the line. Ooops! From there we headed west to Dunsborough and Cape Naturaliste, where we spent the night in a layby just off an unsealed road. We arrived in the dark and had no idea of the scenery around us, we were pretty impressed when we woke up the next morning, take a look at the pics!
We went for an early morning walk and ended up at the formidable 'Windmills' surf beach. Apparently many have lost their lives surfing over the reefs there. Needless to say we didn't go in, but enjoyed climbing over the rocks instead. Further down the coast we stopped at Yallingup, then continued to Gracetown. There we had a great time snorkelling and watching the fish. I saw a Blowfish but didn't get too close. We soaked up some rays on the beach and had a picnic lunch before visiting a winery - it had to be done in this area! After that we headed in to Margaret River town where we wandered around the shops and booked ourselves into a campsite.
Last night we went down to Prevelly beach for a walk then headed up to Surfers Point, just a smidge north, where we watched the surfers and Laura took some photos of the beautiful sunset.
Today we're visiting 'Mammoth Cave' and plan to see Augusta and Cape Leeuwin before heading east along the coast. Other stops are to include Denmark, Adelaide and Esperance. Not sure when the next entry will be as this time next week we'll probably be somewhere on the Nullarbor Desert. Hope you're all well and it's not too cold back home. Keep in touch,
Love Laura and James xxx
NB: Pics and Vids to follow, we're on a rubbish connection at the mo. Might have to wait 'til Albany. Apologies!
NB again: Pics uploaded, and we've made it safely to Denmark, just. More next week hopefully.
