To the dismay of our Plzen host we left for Prague today. It took us about an hour by bus and cost 140 czech crowns which is about 7 dollars for two. So at the moment we are quite happy we didn't buy a rail pass because its so much cheaper to get around Eastern Europe then forking out the money for a pass that dictates your travel. Anyways the bus was fabulous. WE were served free coffee and could order other drinks if wanted. So here we are in Prague for the next four days but at the moment the weather sucks and we are taking refuge in a shopping mall.
Well it is official we absolutly love Prague. Cant say that we have done to much with our time here but we have enjoyed the slow pace and just wandering the streets of Prague. It seems that every time we turn the corner we stumble onto something new. The first two days the weather was questionable...cold at moments and windy, but it finally warmed up for the last two days. We checked out the Charles Bridge conjouring images of Mission Impossible, while at the same time K decided to text Chad L. and tell him that she would throw me over the bridge in honor of the movie... thats what love is all about I guess....... That night we didnt do much, we actually went to go see Spider Man 3, which was nice since we have been out of the movie loop for quite some time. Brandon loved the movie¨and was quite perturbed that Kristi didnt share his convictions.
We rented a nice little apartment like room for our time in Prague and its turned out to be in a perfect spot just close enough to the action yet far enough away at the some time. Each morning we get breakfast in bed to make things even better. However, they love "meat" in Czechland so the first breakfast we received consisted of bread, yogurt, cookies, coffee, and Pepporoni....huh, not quite what I like in the morning, the Pepporoni that is. Also by not eating the peporonni we somehow affended our host. Day two we took in the Prague Castle. If we thought the weather was bad the first day it was nothing compared this day. Being that the castle is perched above the city we kept getting some gnarly gusts of wind. The castle offered amazing views of the city, especially when we climbed the church towers 300+ stairs! The climb up was brutal but the views were well worth the hike up. Pictures and words really cant explain how beautiful and amazing this city is! After a few hours exploring the castle grounds we headed back down into the mix to grab some food and some beers. We proceeded to get a little drunk because the rain kept coming and going so there was no point in venturing out. So drinking went on while we decided that it would be a good idea to start talking about the future, Coming Home, which basically made us realize that we arent ready yet to start talking about coming home...! We also came to the realization that we wont be going to Russia anymore due to there ridiculous visa conditions and prices. It would cost us roughlz 300 dollars and two weeks in the same place just to get our visa and in the end we just cant justify that for only a few days. It sucks because we will be so close to St. Pettersberg and Moscow and it really bums us out that we cant cross the border...next time I guess. We capped this night with another movie...Perfect Stranger, which was Kristis choice and she thinks a better one than Spiderman! The next morning we woke to our breakfast in bed, no meat this time thank God. We got a late start mainly because after breakfast we decided to take a little nap, life is rough these days, especially after 300 stairs! However we did also manage to work out before headïng out for the day. Brandon has gotten so many comments about how good he looks and how skinny he is that now I felt I needed to catch up and get some notice too! Its hard living in someones shadow all the time! j/k. Anyways, today we took it easy grabbing lunch at a local student cafe and then drinking some beers whicle catching up on some reading and sketching. On our first day here we stumbled onto a restaurant called Klub Architez and decided to go check it out. It was located in the basement of a building that also housed a great little architectural book shop and had an ancient cellar feel with its old brick arches. The weather today was a great and we worked off our amazing dinner by walking back to our place, taking in Prague at night. Our last day in Prauge was nice and relaxing, that is after I "Brandon" threw a little bit of a fit inside McDonalds because I thought that we overpaid and for the simple fact that they tried to charge me to go to the restroom.....Let me "Kristi" elaborate. Aparently when you order a menu item it meand not only do you get fries, sandwich, and coke but you also get fried shrimp and a bottle of watter...duh. So when we couldn¨t convice the lady that we had no use for this food and that she just said that this is what the menu is that they just enlarged it. Why we didnt just walk away i dont really know. She made us feel like we ordered it and therefore had to pay for it...so so much for a cheap lunch. Yet what set B off was when he went to the bathroom they wanted his receipt to use the toilet. Of course after hiking up the stairs to go to the toilet he didnt have a reciept and so when he returned to the table he took it out on the shrimp! Throwing them and the box creating a scene that I was left with as he stormed back to the restroom with his receipt!
Anyway, with that embarassment behind us, we finally got into some better moods and decided to roam the city streets once again! We went to an exhibit that showcased the entrants and winner of a competition for a the New National Librarz of the Czech Republic. Future Systems won with a design that Brandon can give you a mouthful of opinions. I just enjoyed checking out what some of the famous entries looked like that received no love.
