Today we arrived in Plzen, Czech Republic. We love the Czech Republic! We didn't want to leave Munich at 6 in the morning so instead of taking a direct train we had to transfer two times and take some slow and very old trains. Yet we made it and we even got another stamp in our passport! Since everything is EU we havn't had our passports checked or stamped really as we cross borders but apparently because we crossed at a small town we lucked out. Anyways we arrived in the small town of Plzen in the early evening and we grabed a room at the first pension we went to, mainly because the host was so friendly. He even treated us to a beer taste test between the local Pilsner Urquell and Budweiser. If your are wondering Plzen is home to the firstPilsener beer and Anheuser-Busch stole the name from the Czech's. Our host was very friendly and gave us all kind of great information. We were pretty much the only ones staying there so we got to pick when we wanted breakfast and what we wanted; not a bad deal. The town itself is small and quant and we happened to arrive during a holiday. And believe it or not the holiday was the celebration of when the US liberated the town of Plzen durring WWII. So we were able to catch a small town celebration with live music, beer, sausages and Czechs dressed up as US soldiers! It was great to be somewhere where they celebrate Americans...this will probably never happen again! Anyways we pretty much layed low here for a couple of days. WE took a tour of the Pilsner Brewery which was really interesting and we saw the world's third largest synagogue and learned all kinds of great Czech history and tips from our host at Pension Sandra. If he had his way we would have never left!
