Well hello to everyone,
Just arrived back home after an amazing weekend was really good although fairly eventful! Nearly died on several occasions! Sorry Mum and Dad! Ok i may have been a bit dramatic but I could have!
Set off on Thursday morning May Day! Myself , Emma and Lauren went Hannah decided to chill out at home! So set off for Gantok, Sikkim which is the state next to West Bengal! Long drive through the hills, very windy roads urrr!! Did not like that very much was not a fan! Driving along quite happily and we crashed!! Someone went in the back of us! It was quite intresting really our driver was having a fight (verbal) with the other driver for about 10 minutes causing quite a stir! We where also the only white people around in a car crash so to be rank we where tourist attractions! The car wasnt that badly hurt a small dent only minor! I am glad we where in a jeep may have been serious otherwise! Anyway carried along! Stopped at the border all foreigners have to get a permit to get into Sikkim so I have an extra stamp in my passport yeay!
Arrived in Gantok, Really clean and not many stray dogs yeay! Found our hotel most of it is grey concrete as it is under construction! Great although our room was really nice had a power shower and TV all very exciting! Watched Friends! Wondered around Gantok I think we may have changed countries without me knowing as its so different! Well we could have you know what my geography is like lol! Booked some trips for the next two days!
Went to a really nice restaurant in the night really posh had japanese style seating where you sit on coushions on the floor with small tables was really nice had good food there aswell... I was shameful and ordered Fish and chips I know i am ashamed! But it wasn't rice!!
Friday we did a ten point tour around Gantok which was so good! Went to a mixture of places from Flower gardens where millions of orchids where growing to monastries to waterfalls! It was really good took all day but explored alot of gantok would not have been able to do it on our own! We stopped at another check point (they have them because they are so close to the Tibet/ Chinese border) Our driver decided to overtake the cars that where parked met another car and had to reverse but while doing so the back wheel went over the cliff!!!!!!! My worst nightmare we where now stuck on the edge of a cliff!! two men started to shake the car to free it tipping us from side to side! Not good! We decided to make a quick exit to safety! very scary! Went to lots of monastries! I have decided I am going to learn more about the buddist religion so i am going to buy a book! I am love how spirtual India is... Dont worry am not religious or haven't turned Hindu or anything but walking to school for example I walk past prey wheels! and can hear monks preying!
On Saturday we went to Tsongo lake which is one of the highest lakes in the world its also a very sacred lake as many years ago apparently it turned a different colour, anyway lots of Buddists come here now! The lake stands at 12000 ft! Right in the mountains! It had snowed the day before so there so snow everywhere was amazing although me and Lauren did have flipflops on! Its a good look! Got to the lake it is amazing! So beautiful we went yak riding around the lake! I love Yaks! My yak i nicknamed Dude, he was very good! He even wore a scarf! oh i nearly forgot he also sported some cool horn warmers which where stripy a very fashionable yak! Took lots of pictures! Just over the peak mountain by the lake lies Tibet, we where not allowed anywhere near there!
Returned home today to a very rainy Darjeeling! Oh i only have a week left and could happily stay for another several months do not want to leave i may refuse!!!
Taking the children on the train tomorrow which could be exciting! Looking forward to it as long as i dont loose any of them!
Hope everyone is ok! Please leave a message!
Lots of love
Sarah xxxx
