It's Friday already. I dread the thought of going back home. I asked Ron, "can't we stay another week?" I ran through my usual routine, by starting breakfast. You can tell when vacation's coming to an end. The refrigerator starts to look bare. Threw some clothes into the washer.
Ron was working steady on that book when I'd taken him a cup of coffee. He's determined to finish it by the end of the trip. "90 pages a day," he proclaims.
Anyway, breakfast was finished and we'd eaten. We decided to get ourselves together and head over to the movie theatre to see "Shutter Island."
We left a bit early as we weren't sure where this place was and knew that the drive back into town was at least 45 minutes and those roundabouts will definitely sidetrack you. Anyway, we'd made our way there with some time to spare. We walked around the newly built shopping mall. Plenty of designer shoppes but not very many customers.
I headed around to a bath shoppe. The store had some intersting things, but everything was made in the US. I could buy this stuff at home and much cheaper.
Finally, I gave up and asked the shopkeeper, was there anywhere I could purchase locally made items. She told me, "yes. The shoppe is called "Pure Art" and it's downtown."
Ron and I met up and walked over to the waterfront. This mall is going to be really nice, when it's finished. People were still painting and setting up their shoppes. The mall even has a huge dock, where people could pull up to, in there private boats. There's even lighting around and improted palm trees, with a huge sand dune in the middle of the water. There were condos over looking the waterfront. I know those are going to be very expensive.
Ron and I took some pictures and ate a couple of melted Butterfinger bars. It was very, very hot and I was trying to sit still, so as not to break a sweat.
Just as we were leaving to get to the theatre, the fountains began working. This place is gorgeous. There was an outdoor restaurant, with just a few patrons, not very many.
We headed in to see the movie and left saying, "what the?" Shutter Island was okay, plus we're on vacation.
After the movie we headed on downtown. I made the same wrong turn twice. It may have even been 3 wrong turns. Finally, we got it right. I found the store "Pure Art." Of course, I went in by myself. Ron was not going to subject himself to my whims of shopping. Deb, the shopkeeper, had tons of beautiful handmade soaps, candles, jams and jellies and even jewelry. I purchased quite a few things. The soaps were divine. Deb and I were talking and both of us were amazed that not only was her name Debra, she hailed from Parma, OH. She and her husband moved there 28 years ago. She said that making a living is pretty hard, but it's okay. After spending some time there and talking, she packed me up this stuff that looks like peanut brittle but much darker. It even had a fried taste to it, but it was sweet. It was pretty good and I forgot the name she called it. But it was homemade and worth a try.
I thanked her and told her I'd be back next year. So now this is my store.
We headed on towards home. I wanted to drive down to the other end of the island, past the house where were staying to look at this gorgeous house again, that we'd seen last year. We took some pictures. As we drove by this one blue house I thought was really cute, an older guy on a bike says, "$1.75." We knew that meant million and this wasn't even one the best looking houses, but it was really, really nice. We drive on down and there it is. The house is gorgeous. They've even built more houses over there, since last year.
We headed on back to the house. We both were kinda tired and wanted to chill out a bit. I fixed Ron a sandwich and I made myself a salad. We ate and watched TV. I put the dishes in the dishwasher and we decided to call it a night.
The nights here are just beautiful. We have the upstairs doors open and the curtains just blow in the breeze. The waves crashing and the moon shining, just makes this place unbelievable.
