Hi everyone, hope you're all well. I know it's not been long since our last blog but today is our day off.
Not a lot has happened since our last entry so this one will be pretty short. We've just been enjoying the weather and working. Last Wednesday after we did our entry we planned to go up to Irene's and sort the stuff out in Kevin ready to sell him but James forgot the key so we couldn't. We ended up just going back to Fremantle, did our food shopping then got the ferry back to Rottnest. We have the key today and we're going to sort Kevin out after this. We have 2 people interested in him already and they should be coming to view today.
We had a good night on Rottnest on Wednesday night. One of the girls, Tegan, who we worked with had a leaving party. We all went down and had a BBQ by the beach then went to the pub. It was a good night. We got to know everyone better and had a good laugh.
We were off on Thursday too and we made the most of the day. We went down to the bike shop to see some bikes they had up for a silent auction and we bid on a few. I ended up winning one for only $33. Any that haven't sold in the auction are going to be up for sale so James is going to try and get one. I should be picking mine up in the next couple of days. We're looking forward to getting our bikes so we can explore more of the island. We also went snorkelling on our day off at Geordie Bay, about a 25 minute walk from our house. We saw lots of fish but James went snorkelling there again on Saturday with Stuart and a lad from work, Martin, and a 2 metre wide Sting Ray swum right under them.We have finished the disposable camera now so we should be able to put some underwater shots on the internet next week.
This weekend was really busy in work which was good because the time went really fast. I was on the morning shifts which I prefer as there is more to do. On Friday I did a closing shift and hated it so have asked the boss if I can do as many mornings as possible. James is finding work ok. It's a shame we don't get our shifts all at the same time though. Yesterday I was in from 6am until 2.30pm but James was in from 1pm until 9pm.
Stuart came over to Rottnest on Saturday. It was nice to catch up with him as he is flying back to the UK today. James managed to get out of work early and they went snorkelling then when I finished work they went jetty jumping and we went to the pub and on a hunt to find Quokkas before he got the 4.30 ferry back. It was tricky as they don't normally come out in the heat of the day and we usually start seeing them again around 6ish, but Saturday was cooler and we managed to find a few before he left. I can't believe how quickly Stuart's time over here has gone. We left the UK 2 months ago today as well. It's gone pretty quick!
We have both got quite a lot of mosquito bites on us from sitting outside or going for walks in the evenings. There are loads of them. We also take most of our photographs in the evenings which is why it always looks like it is cold in our photos and I always have a jumper on. We have actually had really great weather, shorts and t-shirt every day now.
There are so many Quokkas over here in the evening when it cools down. We were sitting outside Dome the other night having a bite to eat and a quokka kept coming up to us trying to get our food. He even had his paws on our knees. It's risky eating your food outside the café. The Quokkas try and get your food from one side and the seagulls from the other. James and the other waiting on staff at the café have to warn people about the seagulls every time they take any food out.
We're going to sort Kevin out this afternoon anyway and hopefully sell him. The roof rack and CD stacker are listed in the "Quokka" too but we haven't had any interest in them yet. We will have to re-list them.
Irene has invited us to stay at her house tonight. It will be nice to catch up with her then we will head back to Rottnest tomorrow afternoon and spend some time on the beach. We're bringing the surfboard and bodyboard out to Rottnest tomorrow too so we'll be able to do some surfing. We have done very little whilst we've been here. The surf in Oz hasn't been as good as we hoped but I'm sure we'll get a few good days.
Hope you are all very well. Enjoy your week.
Lots of Love, Laura and James xXx
