Hi all, hope you are well. So… we only have one more week left working on Rottnest! It's all going very well, we keep getting people trying to persuade us to stay! It's gonna be hard to say bye and leave all our friends behind. Our last working day is on Thursday but we're not leaving until the Saturday morning which is Australia Day and there are going to be huge celebrations everywhere. We're going to meet up with Fish and spend the afternoon and evening with her.
We've had a pretty good week, work is less hectic now so we've had more time to relax. Since the last blog we have purchased a new van, a Mitsubishi L300. It promises to be much more reliable than Kevin. It isn't named yet so we'll have to come up with something, any suggestions are welcome! It is a plain white so we're going to need to jazz it up a bit and kit it out for a travels. Hopefully we'll be able get some seats sorted in the back, and even possibly a rock 'n' roll bed so we can take other passengers. Helen, a Welsh girl from work might be travelling with us now too.
We have also managed to sell Kevin this week and for more than we paid for the new van! An Irish guy picked him up this morning.
The day after we bought the new van (Fri 11th) we met up with Fish in Scarborough and were meant to be going for a Thai meal we had been planning for ages and were really looking forward to but when we arrived it was closed! We still had a good day with her anyway and we went up to Hillary's boat harbour for lunch. We then convoyed down to Freo (we had a hire car) where we met up with Dani and Tamsin and went round the markets with them before meeting up with the crew on 'Escapade', a beautiful catamaran which charters from Freo over the weekends. It was a Christmas present to me and James off my Mum. We sailed out to sea for a couple of hours and watched the sun set, it was beautiful! We enjoyed a nice bottle of bubbly on board then finished the evening off at 'The Sail and Anchor Pub'with Dani and Tamsin. It was a brilliant day! We got some great pics.
We had to get the first ferry back to Rottnest on Saturday morning to be in work for 8.30. Work wasn't too bad the after work a load of us went jetty jumping, most people in their uniforms then in the evening about 10 of us from work went out for dinner at the Tearooms, just across the road from our house. It was another nice evening.
The next day ended in another late night as it was Dani and Blondie's last day so we had a bit of a party. James didn't even come to bed that night because he ended up crashing in someone else's room then he work up at 5am to go for surf with Leo but when they got there it was poor so they didn't end up going in.
The rest of Monday was pretty quiet. After work James went straight to sleep and stayed in bed pretty much all evening.
Tuesday was a pretty good day, well for me anyway. James had to do a split shift but he said it wasn't too bad. I only worked from 9-6 so after work Jenna and I went to the cinema on the island and watched 'The Bee Movie'. It was nice to go out but neither of us were too impressed with the film. After the film we went for a jetty jump despite the sea being very choppy. We have done a lot of jetty jumping recently because it's been getting really hot.
I had my split shift on Wednesday. It was a pretty easy shift so I didn't mind. After I'd finished work a few of us had really nice burritos which James and Nikki had made for us for dinner then we headed up to Gov's bar because a band was playing. We had a few games of pool too although no one really new which balls they were meant to be potting as a lot of alcohol was consumed.
On Thursday we caught the ferry over to mainland straight after work and caught the train up to Armadale to collect the new van. We then went down to Irene's and chatted with her for a bit and the guy who bought Kevin came round to view. James and I then drove up towards Mundaring and spent the night up there. It wasn't the most comfortable nights sleep as we hadn't bought an airbed yet so we were just sleeping on a duvet and the floor in the back is all bumpy.
Yesterday we bought a new CD player for the van and some seat covers and an airbed. We're staring to put our own marks on it already. It's going to be getting sprayed up next Friday. In the afternoon we went down to Freo and met Helen off the ferry then met up with Katie too and we went for an afternoon drink at the pub. We then met up with Dani and Jenna and went up to Jenna's house in the Swan valley to get ready for our night out. It was a really good evening. We went to the 'Sail and Anchor' pub in Freo to start with then we went next door to the 'Metros' club. We got pretty drunk then crashed in the van. I didn't feel so great this morning.
So… we've been having lots of fun as you can see and we're really looking forward to the next few weeks. We have both been guaranteed jobs in Esperance now too. James is going to be kitchen hand and I'm going to have a go as a chef there. Accommodation is free and we get paid $400 a week which isn't amazing but we get a free meal a day so we'll save on food costs. We will be working exactly 40 hours a week which isn't too bad and it's only for 5 weeks too. We start there on 4th February. Exciting stuff!
We hope that you've all had a good week and next week is even better,
Lots of love from us both
Laura and James xXx
