After the museum we were spent, we couldn't take in anymore and we needed some time to reflect so we headed back to the hotel. Once we had some time to process the day’s events we started to stress about our passports again. So we made a trip back to the embassy. At which point we discover we could have go inside and dealt directly with the embassy if we would have followed the sign. Now, were starting to freak out. The embassy staff won't have anything to do with us, just saying that we have to find the officer we gave our passports to. At this point we're pretty sure we'll never see our passports again. So we go back to the guard station and try and communicate with the new guard our worries. His reply is just to show as a handful of passports that he's collected that day with the response..."No problem we get visa!" After a little effort and eventually the help of a motorbike driver who speaks English we are able to get the officers name and number who took our passport and we are again assured that we can come back the following day after five to collect our passports. We finally give up trying to understand and leave it to fate and the hope that this is common and just out of our comfort zone. Perhaps we'll be going to Vietnam and perhaps not is all we could decide.
We really didn't aim to spend as much time as we did in Phnom Penh but we didn't have much choice. The next day we took it easy and just hung around the cafes along the Mekong River catching up on some reading and getting pics developed. The good news of the day is that are disposable cameras worked and we actually had some good pics of Cambodia. Five o'clock finally rolled around and we headed to the Vietnam embassy not sure of what we would encounter. As we pull up the guard gives us a big smile holds out our passports and says "No problem".
