after a long flight from Bangkok and another one from sydney to cairns, i arrives at the serpent hostel.
i was quite suprised to find cairns was so small, but the people here are really nice an friendly. On my first day i booked myself a trip on the reef for the day after. im so glad i did, it was pretty sweet.
the day started a bit drissly (which was refreshing to see after the heat of bangkok) but it picked up a bit later. i got on the boat and found out that they had upraded me to a trip that should have been $65 more! so instead of going to two reefs we stayed at the one called michelmas cay. it was an insland that had been made by the reefs deposits and was growing at 30% a year. it was alos crowed by hundreds of tern birds.
first i went snorkelling there and saw some beautiful corral and weird looking fish.
then i had a hearty lucnh before going scuba diving. i loved it. i thought id freak out about the pressure down there but they taught us how to equalise and stuff so once i got used to it could just enjoy it. And i did. I found nemo and dorry in the corral and im sure i saw a small shark, but alas i didnt see any turtles, i was a bit gutted about that, but what can you do. After that i went on the glass bottomed boat. it was interesting to see but not as fun as scuba diving!im glad i rented a waterproof camera as i got some good photos from it.
for the next few days ive been trying to recoup some budget as it was an expensiive trip! but there'se not a lot in cairns that i cant do anywhere else so i dont think im missing out on anything.
the weather here is hotter than thailand, but luckily not as humid and there are clear skies!!
Tomorrow im heading off to mission beach on the oz experience bus so that should be fun. mission beach is supposed to be a really nice relaxed location that a lot of tourists over look.so fingers crossed it'll be a agood one.
