On a number of occasions now, I have been served a milk based product that, in both appearance and texture, resembles meat.I ate it.It was ok.That is all I have to say about that!
Not much to report since my return from Delhi other than to say my spirits are up and I feel good.Avani Ji (my boss) has returned to Nowgong (Haritika has two offices so he's spends half his time here and half his time in Jhansi at the head office), which I was very pleased about as he is much better at motivating the masses than I am.Granted, his techniques aren't exactly the run of the mill type actions you'd find in England - today I walked in on what, at first sight, appeared to be a scuffle, I then saw a razor and one man in particular being held by 5-6 other staff members. All were smiling and laughing.'Kya hua Sir?'I said (What happened?), to which he responded, he didn't come to the village today so we are punishing him… by shaving off his eyebrows! It was all in jest and of course they didn't actually shave them off but it was very funny and I can see why he's a popular boss.
Another testament to my bosses sense of humour is his ongoing joke that he will arrange my marriage for me.Today he asked what my criteria for a good husband are.I was schtumped.Once I got past the two top things on my list - he must be tall, and play, or at least have an appreciation of, rugby - and the standard kind, honest, blah blah blah, I had no idea.I was laughing and said I am way too young to be thinking about such things, but maybe if I'm still here when I'm 30 I might relent and let him sort me out a bloke.
In Indiannews, the economic crisis is playing itself out here also, but not to the same extent by any means.Yesterday saw the launch of India's first rocket to the moon, an event which the papers are understandably proud of.State elections are coming up and I'm trying to get my head around the political parties etc but all the abbreviations are proving a challenge. We still don't like Pakistan.Oh and got tied up and dragged to school in a village somewhere because he hadn't been attending - one way to sort out truancy anywyay! Not that I'm advocating such a blatant case of physical abuse of course.
Anyway, sorry for the boring post but I wanted to put out a quick message that I am going to Jhansi early tomorrow and will be away for a week so won't have t'interweb. It's Diwalli on Tuesday (like the Hindu Christmas) so we get a week holiday and I'm spending it with my housemates family who live near Jhansi (the nearest big city).I'm very excited to see what happens on Diwalli, and I'm hoping that there will be lots of Indian sweets involved since I'm becoming thora thora (a little) addicted to them. Anyhoo, I'll have my phone on me so feel free to text.
I shall report back on my return.
Hope you're all good.
Lots of love
