Dear all Hotmail is being gay and not letting me open my messages or reply to them. So please don't take offence if its been a while and I haven't replied to you. You can email my UCL account - [email protected] or write on the message board or something. So just a quick update - things are going great here (yey, finally!) I spent 4 days living in a village last week and had an ace time and felt like I finally got to know the staff that I don't work with a bit better. I'd always found them all quite intimidating so it was good to have a laugh with them and to feel a bit more accepted. It was also an amazing experience to stay in the village - we sat round camp fires at night, singing, chatting and, obviously, lots of cricket was played. I am particularly bad at this sport (amongst most others) so I made a bit of a t*t of myself but at least I gave it a shot hey. Furthermore, we are planning on a party for Christmas, obviously not quite along the lines of a good ol' knees up with you lot but chances to socialise are obviously always welcome. I still feel a lil uncomfortable in big groups because I can't exactly contribute to the conversation and spend the majority of the time looking confused and asking kya bolai (what was said?) but it would appear that people don't mind me too much so I'm starting to feel better. I think part of the reason I was feeling a little unwelcomed was because I'm so used to being smiled at and greeted with hugs etc. I know its not done here but, when all you can read people from is their body language, and this is totally different to what you are used to, it is difficult to know how you are being received. I'm finding that a good way to have a laugh with people is to do impressions of them. Last night I did an impression of one guy and another bloke started laughing so hard he had to stop eating and left the room because he couldn't breath - oh its good to feel like a joker again. So I'm slowly starting to find my feet and feel like I can be myself a bit, with the obvious restrictions of course. In other news, my Delhi didi has invited me to go to Rajistan for a few days with her family after Christmas so I'm hoping Avani ji lets me take the time off work. There has also been a couple of new additions to the team, a husband and wife who are both so so lovely and their English is great so we can always be found laughing together - yey. I've also been leading a few 'non-formal' English lessons, featuring the usage of words such as ace, awesome, fricking and gay - as in un-manly rather than homosexual. This may not be overly professional but hey, gotta have a bit of fun with cultural interfacing! Well, that's about it for now. Thanks to Libby for the phone call on Saturday night, I can't tell you how it warmed my heart to hear a bus load of people singing my song. Frick, you guys are ace!!!!! That said, I need an email with a run down of the happenings - pronto! To the rest of you, again, very sorry if I haven't replied but I'll do my best as soon as the hotmail staff get off their arses and sort my account out. I dunno, in this day and age hey! You'd think I was living in Rural India or something. Which, by the way, is not as bad as you'd think - who needs electricity? Lots of love xxxxxxxxxxxxx
