Hi all, hope everyone is ok. Since landing here at 3pm last thursday we've been quite busy. It took us long enough to get over the jet lag though! We've been mostly exploring Perth and a couple of the surrounding areas, including Fremantle and the Swan valley. We've also seen the nice little town of Kalamunda, not far from where we're staying in Walliston.
Stuart and Irene have been great hosts, showing us the bus routes and the best ways to get around. We have Aussie mobile phones now too which make local calls alot cheaper! We're going to look at a campervan later on, which will make getting around even easier still, if we get it.
Our favourite places that we've visited in the past week include Fremantle Harbour, which has alot of its original charm and feels like a real authentic Aussie town. We also really enjoyed the trip to the Magaret River chocolate factory in Swan Valley, where we watched the 'artists' at work making some rocky road, and Laura picked up some choccy.
It looks like our plans have changed a bit. We're going to stay in Perth for just a few more weeks, rather than the 6 months we planned originally. We're gonna hit the road after my birthday in October, and we'll work as and when we need to. We've heard there are plenty of jobs going for backpackers, so we'll keep our fingers crossed. Might work for a month or so picking fruit and then will hopefully work for another couple of months around christmas somewhere near a beach. Going to wait and see where we like.
The new plan is to drive around the south coast and then up the east after christmas. We will then either fly or drive back to Perth depending how much time we have before lauras mum arrives in mid-March, at which point we hope to travel the west coast with her. After her visit we will see Thailand.
Lookout for an update in about a weeks time!
James and Laura xxx
