Hi everyone, hope you've all had a really good week since our last entry. The weather has been beautiful here. Managed to do a nice bit of sun bathing, the tans are really building!
We've had a "Wicked" camper all this week which has been a great runner. A Ford Ecovan Maxi called "Asterix". It's pretty crazy to look at but great inside. We have been staying on a caravan site in it in Fremantle so we were close to the town for work.
Unfortunately Kevin is not fixed and won't be whilst in our hands as the quote came back at $4500 which is way more than we can afford and way more than we paid so we decided it's not worth it and we're going to list him in the "Quokka" (a local version of Loot) as a project vehicle and we're going to sell the roof rack and 12 disc CD changer separately as they are worth a bit of money. We're quite sad about having to let him go but we did get some good use out of him travelling the South-West which we really enjoyed.
We have had some good news this week. We have been offered the jobs on Rottnest island and go out tomorrow on the 9.30 ferry. We will be working in the 'Dome' café restaurant there and we have been guaranteed good hours there plus we get accommodation for just $50 each a week. Looking forward to the really laid back life style there with the surf, snorkelling and cycling.
As for the trial at Cicerellos, well, it wasn't really for us. We were there for 3 hours and all we did was wrap fish and chips. It was so boring. We carried on looking for jobs and walked in to an Italian restaurant called "La Porchetta", we'd eaten nice food there before and had good service. They offered us jobs and we had a trial which went fairly well until we heard back from 'Dome' on Rottnest. We decided to switch as the cheap accommodation meant earning more money.
On Saturday we went to Kings Park to watch the Redbull Air Race taking place over the river. It was great, the planes got really close to the water and some of the were really quick. James took some videos.
We had a really good day on Sunday. The temperature was over 30 degrees so we headed down to Scarborough beach for the day. When we got there we went for lunch at a nice Thai restaurant then went down to the beach to catch some rays and go for a dip. On the news recently there has been a shark sighting, a 6 metre Great White has been seen a couple of times in the last week off the Rockingham coast but we couldn't find it when we were swimming.
We have spent a lot of our spare time this week watching DVD's. We became a member of the local Blockbuster and the DVD's are so much cheaper to rent over here than at home, only about $3.50 for a 7 day rental.
Yesterday we went with Irene to pick Stuart up from the airport after his travels to Darwin, Cairns and Sydney. He had a really great time and definitely recommends we go to Cairns when we eventually travel. He was surprised to see us at the airport when he arrived as by now we were supposed to be close to Melbourne. We all had dinner together at Irene's, she cooked a delicious roast.
All in all not the most exciting of weeks since we arrived as we've been trying to sort Kevin and jobs out. Next week should be better as we are really excited about going to Rottnest. We loved it when we went for James' birthday and look forward to exploring the island more. We are going to leave buying a vehicle until towards the end of our stay at Rottnest as cars are not allowed on the island and we will be able to afford one then.
Hope you're all well and enjoy reading the blog. Got a few pics for you again this week.
Loads of love,
Laura and James xXx
