Hello!
So we have officially been here just over a week now, settling in to Delhi life well (kind of) and Mia is almost over her illness, bonus for both of us! So as Mia said we had a lovely day on Saturday and then yesterday we rang our tuk tuk driver and asked him to take us to a temple called Akshardham Temple, there was a Hindu festival on the same day called Shivratri Festival celebrating Lord Shiva. However we didn't see much celebrating at the temple it was just very busy! It was the most incredible temple/building I have ever seen. The building was inspired and developed by Pramukh Swami Maharaj, the spiritual head of the Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha, whose 3,000 volunteers helped 7,000 artisans construct Akshardham.(google is amazing!) Mia and I stood there for about 5 minutes with our mouths wide open shocked at how stunning it really is, and huge, there is so much to see. The photos don't do it any justice at all and we could only stop briefly to take photos from the distance as you weren't allowed to take any photos inside, you had to give pretty much everything to them and put it in lockers, only money was allowed, much more strict than even airports, but we were told that there has been a few terrorist attacks over the years at temples so obviously they didn't want to risk anything.
There was also 3 exhibitions that we went to inside some of the amazing architecture the first one was about Swaminarayan and his life with these freaky looking realy life dolls that spoke, the next was about the history of India and the third was a boat ride through the years of India and what they have produced and invented etc. was really interesting. By the time we had finished we were exhausted due to the heat mainly and walking around for 4 hours. We got the metro back as it was unfair for the tuk tuk man to wait for us, but the metro is good and so easy to use, also much cheaper and was only one line so took about 15 minutes.
Once we got back to our hotel we met a woman who was from Bournemouth and we ended up having dinner together, she was very helpful as she has travelled loads and explained a few of india's little mysteries to us! We also met a girl called Rachel who is also working with the street kids, we arranged to meet today after her orientation work.
So today we have had a good day with the kids, they were much more focused and loved the activity books and pens we bought them, we also bought them some tennis balls so we can take them outside tomorrow and play some games. We are going to ask the english teacher whether we can take some photos before we leave as technically your not allowed to take any photos there either.
We met Rachel again this evening and she told us she was going to be in the same home as us which will be good, and good for her as well so she won't have to get the metro on her own or anything, we went for dinner again with her and Tracey and had our first lot of street food which was actually really nice it was just a pain that we had to stand to eat it and there wasn't really anywhere to get a drink from or anything so we all went for a drink after.
It is definitaly getting a loot hotter as the bugs are out in full force, our little peacful rooftop restaurants are becoming a pain as you are constantly covered in flies. Oh well can't complain, I hear its very cold in England at the moment!
So that's about it for yesterday and today, we are working all week and then our last weekend in Delhi, quite sad, but honestly? Not going to miss it! Way too hustle and bustle for my liking.
Oh and we also blocked our toilet in our room as we kept putting toilet paper down, they had to change our room and close that room for 4 days....whoops. They are very much hating on us right now!!
Anyway, will update again soon!
Lots of love
