Hey everyone!
I am currently writing from Northern Arizona University. Luckily enough we have free internet access for 2 hours a day. I am very tired still but more than that I am hungry! Haven't had a proper meal since the flight!
We arrived in Flagstaff at about 11pm on Saturday. I am sharing a house with about 20 people ish and am sharing with some cool peeps. There are 3 bunks and I am on the top bunk.. however, it is such a nightmare when you need the loo in the middle of the night! I am staying at Cisco House which is really close to the town centre. It isnt the cleanest house in the world but what can you expect living with so many people? It's quite a good way to get used to university life however. (It's actually really not that bad as I am now calling it home lol).
I am going to go on my first project on Wednesday but I am not sure where I am headed yet. It should be for 8 days so dont expect to hear anything from me until after that. I am quite excited about the challenge ahead. Lots of hard work so hopefully should burn some calories! I am not however looking forward to the possibility of meeting tarantulas, snakes, scorpians the likes! I have no idea what I would do haha.
I have met some cool people from countries such as Korea, Germany, Belgium, USA, Denmark to name a few. Everyone is so laid back but it's still going to take some time before I am really comfortable. We are all in the same boat though which makes it fun.
I am keeping a diary of my adventures in more detail so I will be sure to update it all for you. Oh before I forget... Phoenix is absolutely HUGE. It takes like 45 minutes to just drive out of it. One of the guys from ACE (my volunteer organisation) said that it just keeps spreading further and further into the desert. The only thing that stops it from spreading any further is the natural landscape the surrounding mountains. Sort of like an urban sprawl. Flagstaff is 7000 meters above sea level which is pretty cold compared to the scorching sun of Phoenix. It was only probably mild to the locals but as Brits it really did kill us!
This will be my last blog until tomorrow maybe? Not sure what lies ahead but keep on reading :)
Take care everyone x x x
